Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

I booted Ubuntu Feisty Herd 4's "Desktop" CD. When I click the "Applications" menu and then under "Accessories" click "Terminal" and basically do stuff on the shell (like run "top", for instance), fonts appear to be a bit fuzzy in Gnome Terminal 2.17.91 on my 17 inch CRT monitor. In an older Ubuntu (6.06), gnome terminal wasn't fuzzy like it is now in Feisty.

Hi,

Thank you for your bug report.

Can you confirm what graphics card you are using and at what resolution. Also, if you could upload a screenshot (printscreen), that would help us to determine the problem.

Thanks again

I am using a Geforce 2 MX 400 64MB AGP video card and it is at 1024x768 @ 85hz when I boot the Desktop CD.

I have attached a full-screen screenshot of "top" running inside gnome-terminal.

Hi John,

Looking at your attached screenshot, it would appear to be as sharp as expected. I suspect the image appears differently on each of our displays.

Therefore, this seems to be a configuration issue. I would recommend trying different resolutions and refresh rates. If possible, try and find your 'native resolution' fo your monitor and try that.

As this doesn't appear to be a bug in itself i will 'reject' it. However, if you need support on trying different resolutions i would recommend either joining Ubuntu support chat (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/InternetRelayChat), the forums or the 'support' section on the left hand side.

If the support channels are unsuccessfull, then i request that you re-open this as a 'bug'.

Thanks again.

Same problem here: gnome-terminal, gdebi package installer (the terminal window) shows strange fonts...seems to me as the fonts smoothing isn't working properly: i've tried with different dpi settings and different fonts, but i can see this issue only in those 2 apps.
My monitor is a laptop lcd and my fonts were really nice in every app since some hours ago when i upgraded from gutsy to hardy...

I'm just marking this as confirmed, as multiple people are having problems. I have a noticable drop in font clarity only in terminal.
