The bug reveals itself when you hibernate and return from it.
Sep 25 15:15:59 kernel: [ 2302.044653] ata1: ACPI set timing mode failed (status=0x300b)
Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch) Release: 11.10 Codename: oneiric
To provide some further detail about the bug still it is still visible in kernel 3.0.0.12-generic. Following the new kernel release USB devices are not detected on return from hibernation. No error message is displayed when initially hibernating.
Bug #854925 REFERS
Does this bug have any undesirable effects on your system?
Apart from the time it takes to recover from hibernation and the USB devices not being detected.
I'm not aware of any other issues...
According to this, the error shouldn't be a problem, and the USB issue is more likely to be the cause of the slowness: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/install-boot-login/415946-timing-mode-failed.html
[Expired for Ubuntu because there has been no activity for 60 days.]
After of this kernel update:
alexandre@alberto-desktop:~$ uname -a Linux alberto-desktop 3.14.1-031401-generic #201404141220 SMP Mon Apr 14 16:21:48 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Até aí!
$ dmesg | grep ACPI | tail -n 10 [ 0.189798] pnp: PnP ACPI: found 9 devices [ 0.189800] ACPI: bus type PNP unregistered [ 3.655715] ACPI: Power Button [PWRB] [ 3.655775] ACPI: Power Button [PWRF] [ 3.664177] ACPI Exception: AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT, Index (0x0FFFFFFFF) is beyond end of object (length 0x4) (20131218/exoparg2-420) [ 3.664184] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.IDE1.GTM_] (Node ffff88012b025ca8), AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT (20131218/psparse-536) [ 3.664192] ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed [\_SB_.PCI0.IDE1.CHN1._GTM] (Node ffff88012b025b68), AE_AML_PACKAGE_LIMIT (20131218/psparse-536) [ 3.664200] ata2: ACPI get timing mode failed (AE 0x300b) [ 25.367421] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, Evaluating _DOD (20131218/video-1245) [ 25.367426] ACPI: Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: no rom: yes post: no)
This appears on boot:
[ 3.664200] ata2: ACPI get timing mode failed (AE 0x300b)
Also suspend don't work with this kernel. Then I'm going back to the kernel of the distribution repositories:
$ uname -a Linux alberto-desktop 3.13.0-32-generic #57-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jul 15 03:51:08 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
This is fine!
Perhaps the problem be the lacks of related packages linux-firmware and linux-image-extra.
Bug watches keep track of this bug in other bug trackers.
