Bug Description

After installing the gedit-latex-plugin on oneiric I can't find the latex-plugin in Edit -> Preferences -> Plugins. Maybe this happens because the plugin is installed in /usr/lib/gedit-2/plugins and not in /usr/lib/gedit/plugins like the other plugins.

Currently the plugin does not work under Gedit 3. The solution is to update the plugin to 3.2,

Thanks very much for syncing the fixed version. What's the best way to get this into Oneiric? oneiric-updates or oneiric-backports?

I had the same problem, but it works after installing the deb file.

One minor problem is that that bottom panel is not shown automatically. I have to manually switch it on, each time I open a document. Is there a way to tell gedit to always show the bottom panel? It used to remember the last setting, but now it doesn't anymore. I suppose it's rather a gedit issue and has nothing to do with latex.

Thanks for everyone who helped with this. It is greatly appreciated, as I am using the plugin on a daily basis.

I am not sure whether this is the correct place to mention this, but I noticed a very slight problem: the plugin uses gnome-open to view the compiled tex file in pdf, ps, etc. Unfortunately, gnome-open is not available in the standard ubuntu installation. It is not a big deal, because I immediately installed from the terminal, but it would be nice if it can be packed to install automatically. (Another option is to change all the "gnome-open" instances in the plugin to "evince", in which case everything works as is.)

I just wanted to point out that in Oneiric (with backports enabled) it still installs an older version of the package, even if the package version says 3.3.1-1, it contains gedit-latex-plugin version 0.2.0-1 inside.
I had to manually download the debfile posted above to get it working.

Christian: Are you sure you're installing the version from backports? Starting in Natty, we changed the default backports configuration such that enabling backports doesn't automatically result in getting all packages from backports. You can see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuBackports#Installing_Backports for instructions on how to explicitly request a backported package.
