Bug Description

Found the easiest way to reproduce this on my PC is to load up the AMD64 Kubuntu 7.04 Herd 4 desktop and then start Qtparted from the System menu. I then select /dev/sda from the dialog and an error is displayed "Critical error during ped-disk-duplicate!". My disk is shown as an ATA Maxtor 6L250S0. The problem also occurred during the partitioning step of installation. I have winxp and an old copy of Dapper on the hard drive. Thanks.
I had a look at the similar bugs shown but none seem to match up with my problem, sorry if I missed it.

Just to add sorry, I gave up on the idea for now but if I was that keen on getting it on my PC I am sure I'd have found a work around (such as upgrading from Dapper via Edgy). I run Edgy on my laptop every weekday, but thought I'd give it a go on my PC while I was at home. So its not a big issue for me, but I thought I'd report it in case it was important in the big scheme of things. Just to add that the identification as a Maxtor 6L250SO is correct and also that I liked the addition of the vga option during bootup. I have an ATI graphics card and have previously had to edit xorg.conf to boot to the installation desktop. Adding a vga option is much cleaner, thanks.

Same issue.

Platform Information
Machine: Inspiron E1505
Memory: 2 gig PC 533
HD: Hitachi 60gig 7200 rpm

Dual boot with Window Media Home and Ubuntu 7.06.
On window boot, i have Partition Magic that has only worked one time when I first make partition for ubuntu.

On ubuntu boot, i have QParted that have never worked. It is throwing error message exactly like others have described "ped_disk_duplicate during installation".

While waiting for this to be fixed, please use alternative tool (gparted).
Get the latest from Synaptic
ntfsresize
gparted

After installation
sudo gparted

Good luck.

This bug hasn't had any activity for a while. Is this still an issue? Can anyone confirm this in 9.04?

Hi Pi Boy, I don't know about this bug in 9.04, but in Intrepid it still appears, this is one of the reasons i could not resize or test some partitions on my old Maxtor Disc....

This package was actually removed after Kubuntu 8.10 since qtparted is quite buggy and unmaintained by its authors. It is recommended to use the partitionmanager package for partition management in Kubuntu 9.04 or greater.
