Can't resize an xterm window to increase the number of columns

Bug Description

If I resize an xterm window, the number of columns that the xterm uses stay the same. The rest of the window is black, and I can't grab the border to resize it again.

It works fine in unity2d.

See attached screenshot of the problem. When choosing to take a screenshot of the focused window only, only the white area got included, not the black one.
