Apparent regression in current version: Synaptics trackpad on HP -- right click, click and drag not working

Bug Description

HP DM1 3101EA
Ubuntu Oneiric beta 1, all updates as of 21 Sept.

By default (and with changes in the system settings/mouse and touchpad option):
Trackpad multi-touch (two finger scroll, for example) works
Trackpad tap to click works

Right click - does not work at all
Click and drag only works within the space of the 'left button' area of the trackpad - doesn't work overall.

Problem is resolved by installing the deb (dpkg - i ) at
http://www.mdl4.com/2011/07/fix-your-hp-mini-mouse-in-ubuntu-11-04/
and restarting the X server (ctrl-alt-backspace)

Subsequent updates will install the 'broken' xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (not sure if it's that package or a config file that's broken) release unless pinned.

I'm not technical enough to actually figure the difference, but it transforms the PC from virtually unusable to perfectly normal.

If the regression 'fault' in the detection/config of the synaptics trackpad could be incorporated into the next update to the the package, that would be great.

I'm more than happy to try any fix and / or to provide whatever additional information might assist.

Paul Kerrigan, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.
