Bug Description

I am running Oneiric beta on a laptop with an external monitor. When I start update-manager, it is displayed on the laptop screen. After initiating an update, the progress window is displayed in the middle of the other screen. This is a confusing and unpleasant experience for the user.

Expected behaviour? The progress window (and any other windows that are spawned from that app) should appear on the same screen as the main window for the app.

I can confirm this happens to me in a multi-monitor setup, I have had it happen with:

2x 25" Monitors

and

Laptop and one 25" External Monitor.

update-manager certainly has no idea about the boundaries between screens in the output (and architecturally, should not). Maybe it can be doing a better job of asking the window manager to place its progress window nearby, but I'm guessing we need this to be handled by the window manager itself (i.e., compiz). Reassigning.

Reassigning to the dx team, they are the ones maintaining compiz, I think it's an old know compiz bug

That version has reached EOL since a while, so it will not receive update. If that issue still exist, report again using ubuntu-bug.
