Bug Description

Binary package hint: cryptsetup

version: 2:1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu1
on installation, everything works without any error message, but then installation hangs.
Complete output is as follows:
---8<---
> sudo apt-get install cryptsetup
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-2.6.20-6 unattended-upgrades linux-headers-2.6.20-6-generic
  python-launchpad-bugs python-software-properties apport cryptplug apport-qt
  python-xdg libgpgme6 python-problem-report software-properties-kde
  python-gnupginterface python-apport
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  cryptsetup
0 upgraded, 1 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 0B/266kB of archives.
After unpacking 762kB of additional disk space will be used.
Selecting previously deselected package cryptsetup.
(Reading database ... 187387 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking cryptsetup (from .../cryptsetup_2%3a1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu1_amd64.deb) ...
Setting up cryptsetup (1.0.4+svn26-1ubuntu1) ...
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-8-generic

after that last line the installation process hangs forever.
Just got the idea of 'strace' the process, it says
---8<---
> strace -p <PID>
Process <PID> attached - interrupt to quit

hmmm...

No, definitely not. My "/" has ~8GB free space and holds all system critical
directories.
I just ran
> sudo apt-get install cryptsetup
again, meanwhile using kernel 2.6.20-14-generic, and I still get

update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-14-generic

as the last line of output

the bug is still not fixed and broke my upgrade to 8.04 hardy.
After installing a fresh new hardy both the fresh install worked and the upgrade worked, too.
I suspect that a second swap partition was causing the problems, as this is the only thing I changed in the old system.

I can't confirm this symptom in 8.10 or 9.04. Please set the status to:
1) New if reproducible in a supported or development Ubuntu version, or
2) Fix Released if you cannot reproduce it in a supported or development Ubuntu version.
