Bug Description
This came after fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 beta1
I'm up to date and even tried daily build of vlc from ppa:videolan/
When I try to open preferences or messages windows the whole system become unresponsible. I can move mouse but, but I'm even not able to change the terminal with Crtl+Alt+F[1,2...]. The only way is to power off the hardware.
The first moment I see the border of the opening window and it goes over the screen (to the right). I can't make a screenshot, but it's just a sandart window board.

You have reported a bug against a non-Ubuntu version of VLC. Does this also affect the official Ubuntu VLC (i.e. 1.1.11-2build2)?
