Does the CD pass the integrity check in the boot menu? (Go to the menu that you get after the CD loads but before it starts booting, and run "Verify CD integrity")

I forgot to mention the CD also pass the integrity check with no errors.

Hi,

These type of bugs are extremely hard to track down without more information. I have a couple of further questions.

1. You say the installation process hangs at boot time. Do you mean here that the liveCD fails to boot to the desktop? Alternatively, does the liveCD boot to the desktop, but only fail when the installer icon is clicked?

2. Are the Squashfs error messages always reproducible? Have you tried to install more than once? If so, have you got the Squashfs error messages every time you have tried to install?

Based on the answers to these questions, hopefully I'll be able to suggest someways to track this bug down.

To get some progress with this bug, can you download the latest Beta, and retest? This has a newer version of Squashfs with better error checking.

I have also had this problem with a new Ubuntu 8.04 final ISO downloaded multiple times and burnt to several CD's finally installed OK using alternate install CD. At the recommendation of some people on Ubuntu forums tried all_generic_ide floppy=off irqpoll kernel parameter but still failed this was with ASrock and MSI motherboards.

This problem appears to be ongoing.
