Bug Description

This affects lots of people who have, I believe NVidia cards and connect to an external monitor via VGA. There is, however, a patch available. See the posts by kencamargo at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1679181

Using the information in this thread I have been able to eliminate the problem for 11.04 by using the kernel referred to in the thread. However the problem has cropped up, again, in 11.10 (beta 1 at least).

I quote from kencamargo's last thread in the post referred to: '...this is getting ridiculous; a bug that has been detected months ago, for which there is a known solution, but said solution keeps being squeezed out from the production kernels...'
