I'm able to reproduce error:

Kubuntu Feisty, fully updated. I was able to get rid of the problem temporaly by deleting ~/.kde/apps/share/kopete but now is back.

The same account works without problems with amsn.

As of Feb 26th 2007 the problem seems to be gone on my installation.

Is there someone still able to reproduce this?

Up to date feisty, 2007-03-05. Same symptoms as above. Deleting ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete does not fix it. Deleting kopeterc as well and re-creating the account doesn't help either.

Same MSN account works fine in edgy (kopete 0.12.3 from kubuntu.org kde package)

What is missing for some dev mark this as confirmed, at least?

I'm a dev, and I still cant reproduce this with my msn account.

Does the problem go away if you first select another status, then select online? I've occasionally had that - that it will just go grey if i try to hit online straight away - but not in a while.

It sounds like a config issue, if removing ~/.kde/apps/share/kopete fixes it. as for why it comes back, I dont know.

I had the same problem. The solution was to close KNetworkManager.
Konqueror wasn't connecting to internet either and I read in Ubuntu forums that killing KNetworkManager it will connect. I close it and then konqueror work fine and kopete also connect to MSN.
I have a laptop connected by wifi and with the Ethernet port not connecting, and KNetworkManager only recognize the desconected Ethernet but not the wifi (not showing any ESSID even being connecting to one). So I guess it is a problem with KNetworManager.

Hope that helps.

may be a networkmanager problem then.

I can second that. After closing network manager, it connected fine :)

Maybe we can mark this bug as a duplicate...
