Thanks for your bugreport.

It looks like g-a-i has a memory leaak on re-opening the cache. The ProcMaps show a bunch of:
6f4e0000-6fe67000 r--s 00000000 fe:00 558099 /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin (deleted)
77d8d000-78714000 r--s 00000000 fe:00 558104 /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin (deleted)

that memory seems to get not returned for some reason.

This should be fixed with the upload of 0.3.22.
