Thanks for your bug report. Could you please add the full output of 'lspci -vv', 'lspci -vvn', 'amixer' and 'asoundconf list' to your bug report? Thanks in advance.

Last night I tried all physical inputs and recording capabilities. Nothing works (Line2, Aux2, Analog Mix) except the Microphone channel, which sadly has only mono input. Also, it works only by opening gnome-mixer, adjusting the changes and let it open. Otherwise the values reset themselves. The command line alsamixer cant set capture to ANY of the recording inputs.

The issue is that Alsa does not support out of the box the AD1981A (Subsystem ID 0e11:00ad) for recording.
Only Capture is available in the mixer (recording) controls.
It is not possible to record sound.

After further testing, it appears the issue is probably with Pulseaudio, as it works with Alsa.
I am able to configure the mixer in order to record with Audacity and arecord. However, gnome-sound-recorder hangs when it tries to make a recording.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 85300

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I should not have marked this Invalid as I was uncharacteristically presumptuous and I beg your pardon. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Maverick Meerkat. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.
