Bug Description

It would be nice to add one option like "Mark read this entry after click on single email"

Without any further use case rationale I have to reject your feature request because there is already a similar feature: 'Remove entry after click on single email' on the Indicator tab in Popper_Configurator. So what's the difference between marking an entry and removing it from the messaging menu? If you already read that email why should it stay in the messaging menu?

Changed in popper:
status: New → Incomplete
importance: Undecided → Wishlist

The difference is obvious: I want to mark emails as read WITHOUT opening the mail client.

Hi Simon,

I make you out, but Popper is an Email-NOTIFIER (as you can see in the headline here). Marking mails as read is task of mail-CLIENTS.

Sorry, but it's a clear "won't fix" from our point of view. Popper SHOULDN'T manipulate any data on your system or server by early definition of Ralf.

Anyways - thank you for giving back with your suggestion and feel free to report or suggest at any time.

Cheers

Patrick

with "unity-mail" as nice alternative currently getting more popular, this mark-mail-read feature could make popper stand out, moving beyond notification. also showing the whole textual email cud be a nice feature (before marking it read on the server).

Hello dayf,

thank you for contributing to this discussion, but once again, what you like to have is a (lightweight) mail-CLIENT. Sorry that Popper won't become the Programm you want it to be (in nearest future). I know and share the opinion of Ralf about that.

Cheers,

Patrick

P.S. My personal opinion about 'unity-mail' as nice alternative is that Popper doesn't have to stand out. We don't get money for Popper (and I personally don't want to and also believe that Ralf doesn't either) so why should we think about 'unity-mail' as concurrence? You can read my opinion about that also in the comments of the blogpoust over at webupd8: http://www.webupd8.org/2011/09/unity-mail-gets-ubuntu-messaging-menu.html

I understand the reasoning by trick17 but a mail notifier can do more than just report the mail.
In fact, the current configuration of Popper allows do more things than just report the post in the tab "Scripts", don't you think?

I suggest this because before I used googsystray (http://googsystray.sourceforge.net/) and this app allows mark read, delete, archive, etc... without opening the mail client. It was very comfortable.

Yes, Simon, but WE (Ralf and I) won't implement this feature (I even don't think it's technically possible) as we didn't implement the changing of LEDs on a Notebook and all the stuff people are doing now with THEIR scripts. This is the interface we are offering, but unfortunately without the information about which Mail is clicked (once again: it's technically impossible [for us]). Why don't you use googstray anymore if it fitted your needs?

@all: You won't talk us to implement it. It's our freetime-project. If you like it and it fits your needs: GREAT!!! If it doesn't, you're requesting it and we refuse it: please accept it. Thank you.

Cheers,

Patrick

It has become clear to me you don't want to implement this feature.
Anyway, I don't use googsystray because its development was abandoned and it doesn't work with Unity.
So I'm trying out other notifiers. But all the notifiers (compatibles with Unity) that I have tried are, for my needs, too basic.
In any case, thanks for your work. Popper is almost what I need. ;-)

You're all very welcome. Thanks for giving back to all of you who report, request features and so on.

Hope you're finding the most comfortable setting for you. If Popper is part of it it makes us happy, too.

Cheers,

Patrick

Thanks for the discussion and many thanks of course for the great free-as-in-beer notifier. Regarding a light-weight mail client (with yet another notifier :) Postler could already be interesting for some ... Cheers.

I don't get you. Popper is free as in freedom. You can take a look at its source code and do whatever you want to as long as you don't violate GPL license.

Thank you for your recommendation about Postler.

Cheers,

Patrick
