awn = avant window navigator, a dock application that is available in ubuntu. (package:avant-window-navigator). It has a lot of applets that could be added to the dock. Few of the applets are 'animal farm' applet that displays fortune messages, 'awn terminal' applet that provides a popup terminal shell, 'workspace switcher' applet that provides workspace switching functionality and so on.

When an applet like 'animal farm' is clicked, it shows a fortune message in a popup and the unity launcher menu is unchanged. But when the 'awn terminal' applet is clicked, ubuntu launcher menu shows a gray icon with a "?" in it.

When the 'awn terminal' applet is clicked when there is an active maximized window, the icon for the 'awn terminal' applet appears partially in the desktop for a short duration and disappears. This is the bug. Even for other applications like nautilus, when opening home folder or other places, half of the launcher menu icons become visible for a short period of time and then get hidden.

Please check the screenshot for the illustration of the problem and see the ? icon in the right side of the screen that corresponds to the open awn terminal
