Bug Description

Upon freshly installing Natty and moving all the /home data from a Maverick install, GLX acceleration no longer works. When I login with either the Unity or Ubuntu Classic, the screen will change, sometimes even showing the unity panel. However, it freezes and it unresponsive to clicking (but the mouse will move). Using the "Ubuntu Classic (no effects)" works fine. I have a Nvidia 7300 GS and I am using the Nvidia binary driver (the plymouth one has horrible corruption on the Ctl Alt F1-F6 consoles).

This is a regression; glx acceleration used to works fine on Maverick. I avoided Natty for this machine because of it's use as a web server and router for my house--I needed it to work, and didn't want to spare the downtime for testing. (I am now running Natty though, but not with acceleration).

I have tried to describe the bug the best I can, but if you need me to try/test something more I will.

Hey erik-b-andersen,

You filed this bug report against natty, but I see it's still open and
doesn't appear to have much activity recently. So, now that oneiric
is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade
and re-test if this issue is still present there.

If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting
the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release
is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll
close it.)

If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll
get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but
your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do.

@Bryce Harrington:
I just tried it. It still happens on Oneiric with the Nvidia Driver.

It seems that an automatic system closed this bug, even after I confirmed it still happens.

That version is no more supported; please open a new bug report if the actual archive found version also has the same issue.
