Hi Stanley and thanks for reporting this bug. According to your question, you say this is a problem on many devices, yet it works fine here. What test sound(s) are you using? Are they available?

Hi David, for general usage like listening to music and watching video using default installed or new ones seem to be working alright. The problem is when I use LibreOffice (or OpenOffice.org in Ubuntu 10.04) Presentation, Impress. The sound effects like for eg. Laser, Apert and etc set in Effects Option dialogue box did not play properly during Slide Show.

The sound effects tested (click play icon) in the Effects Option did produce the correct sound. But during Slide Show (F5), the sound is too short. Laser sound effect did sound a bit but Apert did not have the chance to produce any noticable sound.

The same slide show contained WAV file that is very much longer and it played alright throughout the slide show. The MP4 video also played fine may be due to the longer duration of playback.

From my observation, the problem seems to be because of the sound has not given the time to finish, refering to the sound length (playing time). May be pulse audio stop the sound too soon for short duration sound. I can see app icon flashes when the sound being played (very fast blink) in the sound preference, Applications tab.

I have tried this in many different computers with different Ubuntu versions. The result is the same for all the computers. Ubuntu versions 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 and 11.10 beta. 10 computers (same hardware) with 10.04, 1 computers with 10.10 and 1 notebook using both 11.04 and 11.10 beta in different hardisk.

OpenOffice, org and LibraOfice used are preinstalled with Ubuntu without any modification.

The important thing is the problem occur during SLIDE SHOW (F5) in Impress (Presentation).

Ok, I can confirm that sound does not play correctly during slide show effects. I'm unsure if the problem is on the PulseAudio side or on the Libreoffice side. I probably need to hook up with someone on the LibreOffice side in order to debug further. Anyone who knows libreoffice debugging that can help out her?

Attaching PulseAudio log for reference - time 0.40 to 0.44 was playing back through the dialog box, everything before that was trying to run a slideshow.
