remote desktop viewer always gives error on connect

Ubuntu Release: 11.10 (development branch)
Vinagre Version: 3.1.91-0ubuntu1

Whenever I try to connect to a VNC server (which I know is working, as other computers can access it), I get the error "Error reading from unix: Input/output error".
