Bug Description

OS: windows XP
Inkscape 0.48+devel r10611

Problem was not in previous version I tested (Inkscape 0.48+devel r10582 and previous^)

In this version, the following activities is painfully slow. It's just like a game that is running on a very old computer that makes the graphic to lagg.

I know at least three activities that make this lag:
* Spray tool (any setting)
* Move a number (just a dosen of simple objects will cause lagging) of objects
* Inherit from last point: Use the Sculp tool to move objects.

^ I have only tested those versions that is (was) avaiable on modevia download (exept from this r10611 that I got from "http://www.oss-marketplace.com/index.php/downloads-mainmenu-63/Inkscape/Entwicklerversionen/"

Does performance improve, if none of the objects has a stroke defined (Ctrl+A, remove stroke)?

Most likely due to the change for the selection bbox calculation in r10589, see
<http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.graphics.inkscape.devel/37154/focus=37156>

Refers to all visible objects in the current document.

@pRobotype - do you still see the same amount of lagging in current development builds? Caching of visual bbox has improved in several aspects since the known regressions with stroked objects had been introduced back in r11589.

If the reported issue is still noticeably present with decent amount of stroked objects in the current drawing, could you provide detailed steps to reproduce?

Note: this is likely about the same issue as tracked and discussed in bug #906952.

Hi.

I'm currently testing with Inkscape 0.48+devel r11668.

I can confirm that the performance since r10611 has improved a lot. I did a test with a single color object with stroke and created more than 90 clones without any noticeable lags.

Then I used the sculpt tool onthe clones. Some lag, but not much.

My CPU is AMD Athlon 4400+ dual core, 2 gigs of RAM.

@pRototype - thx for the feedback, much appreciated. I will close this report as 'Fix Released' for now - feel free to reopen it if you don't agree.

Please file a new report (with steps to reproduce) if you encounter similar performance regressions which are not covered by bug #906952 (as discussed in the comments there and the linked thread on the mailing list).

Changed in inkscape:
status: Incomplete → Fix Released
