Bug Description

Hi, i have tried to install Ubuntu 11.10 x64 beta1 into my box:
Asus p5qc (Intel P45)
Intel Core2Quad (2666 MHz)
2GB ram (DDR1333)

Tested RAM and CD media for errors, but tests where ok.

The installation starts as usual, then, on the file copy process, the screen just freezes, no keyboard kernel panic ligths at all, just freezes and can not move the mouse cursor!, not even a BSOD (jeje). As this happens, I can not debug the issue at all, just stops working...just as is...no warnings, no logs, nothing.

Please consider that installing Ubuntu 10.04 x64 on the very same box works ok.

Please, need some advise, because I think that is a bug in Ubuntu.

Thanks a lot!

Sorry, forgot to mention my partition scheme:

part 1, ext4, 350mb, /boot
part 2, btrfs, 39GB, /

With this scheme, even the alternate CD fails with this error message on console #4
"debootstrap tar: write error: no space left on device".

Now trying with alternate CD an this partition scheme:
part 1, ext4, 40GB, /

Installing, so far, not errors.

Best regards!

Hi, installation succeded and system working ok with alternate x64 CD and partition scheme 2 (part 1, ext4, 40GB, /), it may be an error with BTRFS.

Please advise

are you able to switch into a text console [alt+1-6] or does it not respond?

Hi, using the standar install CD, it freezes and no consoles at all. Using the alternate CD, consoles respond but throws some ugly error message.
This happens when using this partition scheme
part 1, ext4, 350mb, /boot
part 2, btrfs, 39GB, /

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in update-manager.

Please also if you can attach the logs found in /var/log/dist-upgrade after the aborted install.

Post results if any.

If it does't, repeat the same steps but with alternate CD.

Hi, tryed the desktop cd installation steps, but no log files in dist/upgrade, so just compressed the whole log folder just in case

Will try the alternate CD method to be able to capture the screen.
