Bug Description

This bug affects multiple KDE editors (at least kwrite+kile), so it may be a libktexteditor4 issue.
Sometimes text is displayed in a garbled manner, expecially after/during selection/copy/paste. Text lines can be shown in the wrong line (content on screen overwritten), text display changes in lines not currently edited . Rerendering shows, that the original content may not be changed. Other times selection does not work properly and sometimes even text gets changed in a fairly randomly manner (using parts of the selection), selection boxes can appear all over the display area.

To reproduce a selection problem I encountered:
* kwrite bugfile # (attached)
* make a selection direction backwards (e.g. line 20 to 18),
* press ctrl-shift-up to select the previous lines (17,16,...)
* added selected lines get added at end of selection (after line 20), so line ordering is 16,18-20,17,21

Since I also use debian and the problem does not exist there, here is the version of kwrite in debian (squeeze):

$ aptitude show kwrite
Package: kwrite
New: yes
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 4:4.4.5-2
Priority: optional
Section: editors
Maintainer: Debian Qt/KDE Maintainers <email address hidden>
Uncompressed Size: 352 k
Depends: kdebase-runtime, libc6 (>= 2.1.3), libkdecore5 (>= 4:4.4), libkdeui5 (>= 4:4.4), libkio5 (>= 4:4.4), libkparts4 (>= 4:4.4), libktexteditor4 (>= 4:4.4), libqtcore4 (>=
         4:4.6.1), libqtgui4 (>= 4:4.5.3), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1)

For comparison, this is the (broken) version in Ubuntu:
$ aptitude show kwrite
Package: kwrite
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 4:4.6.2-0ubuntu1
Priority: optional
Section: editors
Maintainer: Kubuntu Developers <email address hidden>
Uncompressed Size: 430 k
Depends: kdebase-runtime, libc6 (>= 2.2.5), libkdecore5 (>= 4:4.5.2-0ubuntu1), libkdeui5 (>= 4:4.5.2-0ubuntu1), libkio5 (>= 4:4.5.2-0ubuntu1), libkparts4 (>= 4:4.5.2-0ubuntu1),
         libktexteditor4 (>= 4:4.5.2-0ubuntu1), libqtcore4 (>= 4:4.7.0~beta1), libqtgui4 (>= 4:4.5.3), libstdc++6 (>= 4.1.1)

In between these versions the bug must have been introduced.

Hi Martin!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
