Bug Description

I am testing the next release of Ubuntu and I found out that the touchpad is no longer working.

I checked the Fn button and the touchpad is not disabled from hardware.

Also left and right touchpad buttons are not working.

I am able to use the same touchpad on Maverick.

Thanks!

It looks like there is a problem with gnome settings.

The touchpad is working in the Login windows, but stops working after the gnome session is started.

I looked at mouse and touchpad settings and touchpad is enabled.

affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) → gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu)

I can confirm it. When I start openbox session with gnome-settings-daemon included in autostart script, touchpad does not work.

Got the exact same problem on Dell Inspiron 15R. Touchpad works at login screen only. The key mapped on keyboard for enabling/disabling touchpad is Fn+A dedicated touchpad key.

However, I get notification of touchpad being enabled or disabled even if I only hit touchpad key on keyboard (without holding FN key first). All other dedicated keys for changing brightness and enabling/disabling wireless etc. works only if they are pressed as a combination with Fn key.

i think this bug is a dupe bug #549727, but with 11.10 the "disable touchpad while typing" is the one activating that bug (several apps disabling the touchpad and going out of sync)

I also have this problem in Oneiric after upgrade from Natty, where the touchpad worked fine. Gsettings claims that the touchpad is enabled:

$ gsettings get org.gnome.settings-daemon.peripherals.touchpad touchpad-enabled
true
