Bug Description

After installing Ubuntu / Lubuntu 11.10 Beta 1 from Ubiquity / Alternative methods, the following files are missing:

/usr/src/linux-headers-3.0.0.9/KBuild
/usr/src/linux-headers-3.0.0.9/KConfig
/usr/src/linux-headers-3.0.0.9/Makefile

Even though the linux-header* packages are installed. As a result, any compilation of kernel module projects would fail.

The only workaround I have so far:

sudo apt-get remove linux-headers-3.0.0.9
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

NB: this bug has appeared and disappeared momentarily around Alpha 3, and has now come back to haunt us

Bug still exists on linux-headers-3.0.0-10

It is observed that whenever the Ubiquity installer is out-of-date, i.e. it bundles an earlier version of linux-headers than in the software centre, I would have no problem building kernel modules simply by installing:

  sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

Once Ubiquity is updated to the latest linux-headers, I will need to use the workaround:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.0.0-10
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

Workaround:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.0.0-11
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

Seems to be fixed with linux-headers-3.0.0-12

I have some ideas where this problem might be, but it would really help if I could have installer logs from an installation that has left out the files in question. Could you please attach /var/log/installer/syslog from such an installation?

The problem has not occurred since the final release of 11.10 and up to the latest update (3.0.0-16).

I cannot do much about this bug report, e.g. changing its status to "closed".

Thanks for taking your time anyway.
