Bug Description

Launcher fails to reveal when the pointer is positioned in the bottom-left corner of the screen.

To reproduce:
1. Make sure the Launcher is hidden
2. Move the pointer to the bottom-left pixel of the screen (or a couple of pixels above the bottom on the far left side of the screen)

Current incorrect behaviour:
- Launcher does not reveal

Desired behaviour:
- The Launcher should reveal itself in response to the pointer being positioned *anywhere* on the far left of the screen. This includes the bottom 5 or so pixels on the far left.
- Note that the area occupied by the 'close' window decoration should not reveal the launcher as this would conflict with bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/839690

This seems to affect the top-left corner as well. Only top and bottom 2 pixels seem to be affected.

There are several bugs being filed on the upper left corner no longer being a viable option. & likely more to come
For the most part they are being marked "won't fix", yet this report seems to indicate otherwise
It might be nice to clear up the confusion if in fact there is any?

I agree with comment #3... Can someone clarify what the final decision on this is? The topleft-corner has been extremely useful for me thus far.

@ mehmetaergun - if this isn't returned or a better job of disabling takes place you can still use the top l. corner almost the same as previously.
Just move your cursor into the corner as before, then pull down along the l. edge. The launcher will expose

You can make it show faster by lowering the 'Edge reveal timeout' value in ccsm > unity plugin,

Correction of comment #2:

In the meantime the whole top panel edge has stopped to reveal the launcher bar (http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~unity-team/unity/trunk/revision/1646). The bottom left two pixels are still dead.

For clarity, this bug report details a issue with the left edge reveal. It is not related to the previous top left corner reveal functionality which has now been removed.

Also note that is should be possible to reveal the launcher by moving the pointer to any location on the far left side of the screen; this *includes* the area occupied by the Top Bar.

In ccsm navigate to Desktop>Ubuntu Unity Plugin>Behaviour. The option Revel Mode allows several ways to show the Launcher. I can get the top corner to work if I move the mouse pointer to the top left and then move it down the left margin a short way. The bottom left corner works as expected simply by placing the mouse pointer in the bottom left corner.

Given the 'busy' top left corner I actually find the move to corner and stroke the left margin to be very useful and if not designed please consider retention before 'debugging' it. It avoids mis-selecting the close button for example.

I have Revel Mode set up for TopLeft,BottomLeft and with the stroke tweak for TopLeft find it very satisfactory.

As bwallum has mentioned, the current behavior is about the best it could be. Whether conforming to the current design or not shouldn't be subservient to what's best.

As it stands now the 2 biggest complaints can be resolved by user choice -
One is the issue of inadvertently exposing the launcher when going for the quit button - that can't happen whether the user has the left top corner or left edge reveal set

The other issue with the launcher being exposed when working on the left side of a window, like the back button in firefox, this currently can be resolved by the user by selecting the top left corner and deselecting the left edge

So whether intended or not you currently have got it correct & certainly should consider leaving it that way.
