Amarok Can't Tag AAC/MP4 Files

Bug Description

Binary package hint: amarok

In amarok when trying to tag an aac file the ubuntu build will report an error, saying that amarok couldn't tag the file. Amarok comes with AAC tag write support, for some reason the line --with-mp4v2 isn't included in debian/rules.

Thanks for the bug report, Josh. What version of Amarok is this? Can you confirm it with the latest Amarok in Feisty, which is 1.4.5 ?

Sorry for not being specific enough. I am running amarok 1.4.5-0ubuntu2 in feisty.

Looks like adding --with-mp4v2 would solve the problem.

I think this would need libmp4v2-0 installed in order to actually use the functionality, which is in multiverse. It's a question of whether amarok should depend/recommend/suggest the multiverse package, with amarok in main and all.

A similar situation to bug 83900.

I was unable to tag an MP4 file that I just downloaded to test. The first MP4 I found was Lindsey Lohan, so I had to remove it ASAP! :)

I think that it would be a good idea for the Amarok package to suggest libmp4v2-0.

Can you confirm this bug on -0ubuntu5 ? I think it may now include that line in debian/rules.

-0ubuntu5 still doesn't support mp4 tag editing or include the entry in debian/rules

AAC/MP4 tagging is not supported in MAIN because the needed librarys are in multiverse ( lic issues )
this bug must be rejected for now as amarok cannnot support this in Kubuntu

That seems like a disappointing resolution to this bug. What is the feasibility of the following possible solutions:

1) enable --with-mp4v2 in debian/rules even though libmp4v2-0 won't be installed on an install with only main. Would trying to tag mp4 files cause a crash or just not work correctly (already the case)

2) create an amarok-full (or similar name) package in universe/multiverse that _is_ compiled with all the license-restricted plugins that aren't included in the main repo's compilation of Amarok. amarok-full could then be installed over amarok and still have added functionality with all those plugins.

Hopefully we can work around these license issues with the availability of the universe/multiverse repos, created for just such problems!
