Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu oneiric (development branch)
Release: 11.10
jockey-gtk:
  Installed: 0.9.4-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 0.9.4-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 0.9.4-0ubuntu2 0
        500 cdrom://Xubuntu 11.10 _Oneiric Ocelot_ - Alpha amd64 (20110824.1)/ $
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

This crash happens every time I start "Menu->Settings->Additional Drivers".
In order to get the Oneiric alpha 2 to boot after install i apparently needed to delete
grub gfx line, remove splash, and add apic=off to my kernel boot lines.

Nouveau rarely chose a working resolution but it was a lower resolution when it did work. Usually
it showed alternating white and black stripes and would not switch to a console.

I fixed this by booting with the shift key held,
in grub selecting and editing the "recovery" line to match the above settings. then ctrl-x to boot.

next I selected root with networking prompt and then apt-get update & apt-get install nvidia-current

Then rebooting with the grub options above got me into xubuntu oneiric with a nvidia settings resolution of
"LPL 1440x900".

Not sure if this is related but seems like a killer bug that may have been avoided using the livecd install if I had
been able to install nvidia-drivers on the initial boot.

I'm not sure if "apic=false" or getting rid of gfx boot stuff in grub or the splash was as important as installing nvidia-current.
