Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

After trying to install from the herd 3 live cd I finally discovered why the installer was crashing. On my first attempt in the manual partition section,I created a new 5 GB partition, but in reality it was an 87 MB partition. The installer incorrectly reported the size and did not create the size which I figured I had to give to it in Bytes. There was no warning that my / partition was to small to install to, just a quick popup that I was out of space on the mounted temp partition ( sorry can't remember the name of it) and then the installer crashed. I attempted to install many times using the 87MB partition with no warnings about it being to small. My next attempt I tried to make a 10 GB partition, but I ended up with a 32 GB partition. With a large enough / partition the installer worked perfectly from there.

There needs to be an easier way to define partition size, and the partitioner needs to report sizes correctly and in a human readable format.

Thanks for your report. This is partly also bug 82848; ubiquity 1.3.18 should be much better for you.

Hi,
I had a similar problem recently. I tried to partition a new 500 GB disk into sda1 with 6 GB and sda2 with 494 GB. There was no problem with sda1 but when I set sda2 to the rest of 494 GB I found that the partitioner had set it to 64 GB instead. I did repeat this several times but it always behaved the same way. I had to partition the disk with fdisk eventually. This was with the Feisty 7.04 amd64 image.

Regards
Jesus
