Hi Dave, it's good to hear you're able to reproduce this one reliably.

Please uninstall ia32-libs, reboot, and then attempt to reproduce this bug (you can reinstall ia32-libs later). I want to rule it out as a possible cause. ia32-libs includes 32-bit builds of various packages and sometimes those packages get out of sync with the 64-bit versions; I want to see if there is an old mesa or something in your ia32-libs causing this bug.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.

Must admit, this appears to have stopped happening.

The functionality still doesn't work.... but it doesn't seem to introduce a GPU hang any longer... it just doesn't output to the external screen at all.

I'll close the bug unless I can reproduce it on a current system.

Thanks.
