This was actually a bug in aptdaemon, see bug 846044, and I have marked this one a duplicate of that one.

Note from bug 846044 that a fix for this was released on 9/19 with aptdaemon version 0.43+bzr697 and I don't see any dupes since that date, so all seems good and this bug should be fixed now.
