Ngassam: does the icon "just go" in the middle of a session, and then come back again?

Or is it always missing from the start of a login session?

Yet it just goes again, after login out since I reported this bug.
No it is not missing from the start. just in the middle of the session it gets missing.

One way to reliably cause this: Use Update Manager to install updates that require a restart to complete. I think something about changing the text of the menu from "Updates Available" to "Restart to Complete Updates" crashes the indicator.

It doesn't appear to be the ONLY thing that causes it, but it does cause it for me almost always. (Perhaps the other thing that kills it is when the scan for new packages reveals updates, and tries to change the text from "Software Up to Date" to "Updates Available"? I haven't been watching closely enough to confirm that, but it stands to reason).

BEST WORKAROUND: "killall unity-panel-service". This reloads the top panel only. One *can* issue a "unity --replace &", but that can cause issues with already-running apps.
