Bug Description

If I open a LibreOffice app from menu, it takes about 1 second, but if I double click any document from Nautilus it takes about 19 seconds, most of the time I have the LibreOffice logo box and nothing is happening. I looked for "LibreOffice slow to load" and find solutions about fixing the hosts file, a slow dns search and so on, is this a bug?

Prada thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. The short answer is no this is not a bug. One method to speed up initial loading is to use the no logo switch via the Terminal:

lowriter -nologo example.odt

Please feel free to report any future bugs you may find.

Hi Christopher, thanks for your fast reply. I dont understand, does it mean that to open a document from Nautilus, it is normal and not a bug to wait for 17 seconds? It does not make any sense, I had not seen something so slow in maaany years.
Using the terminal to navigate several directories and then writting the command to open the desired file? I cant imagine that... it would take me the same 17 seconds, I dont imagine how could something like this be normal.

Hi Christopher, I just discovered that the long delay problem is with files I save as doc instead of odt.
Thanks

It may be that this is a bug. Please attach a file which is particularly slow to open.

Hi Jack, thanks a lot for your time, to follow your advice I tested with old and new files, and the problem is only with the new files I create and then load, does not matter if they are odt or doc.
I am wondering if the problem comes from an Openerp_report_designer addon that I installed and I can not uninstall now.
If I reinstall LibreOffice with Ubuntu Software manager will I get rid of it?
Thanks again,

For me this document takes about 13 seconds to start first time and about 4 after that.
Does it get faster to start subsequent times?
It seems likely that that addon is making LibO start slowly. How did you install it?
Can you remove it with Tools -> Extension Manager... and find out whether that solves the problem?

Hi Jack:
-I opened the .odt sample file 4 times and it took the same 18 seconds.
-I installed the add-on with an Openerp wizard
-Attached is a screen capture showing that the addon is still present even after I clicked remove several times and restarted.
-Is there another way to remove the addon?
Thanks a lot!
Julio

Retargeted this bug since it seems likely to be a problem with the addon not LibO
Regarding removing it, try asking at https://answers.launchpad.net/openobject-addons/+addquestion which is the upstream project

Hello prada,

I have tasted a Openerp_report_designer in LibreOffice with Ubuntu 11.04 at my end but it is working as usual and I didn't face the Libe Office s loading slower.

So would you please elaborate more information on this or provide the more precious steps on this.

Thanks and waiting for your reply .

Hi Amit, I found this bug:
https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22693

Then I made this test:
When I disconect the network libreoffice opens in less than 2 seconds
When I connect the net it opens in 17 seconds.
When I just open write it is fast, then, when I open -> recent -> test.odt (from the Write menu) it takes the 17 seconds to open.

So, I suppose that libreoffice is searching for something on the net.
Why?, it shouldnt be doing it!
It looks like there is a instruction in the files that I save (older files open super fast)
Is it the Openerp extension? (I does not uninstall)
I removed the only other extension that I had without problem but the problem remains.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Hello prada,

I have retested all scenario with Ubuntu 11.04 in libreoffice and I have seen that there is not take a much time to load the openerp_report_designer plugins and it is working as usual.

I didn't face the problem from openerp_report_designer plugins.

So currently I am closing this bug if you still face the problem then you can reopen this with more information.

Thanks.
