Bug Description

Sometimes my windows are moved to different workspaces after unlocking the screen. Eg. This time all the windows that where in workspace 1 where moved to workspace 6, and workspace 5's windows where moved to workspace 1.

This is somewhat similar to the behavior seen after compiz crashes and windows get moved around, however it is different in that unlike the compiz crash most if not all windows stay properly grouped to on a desktop, its just the which desktop has changed.

Well its not just during/at screen lock. The desktops just switched back, and windows are mostly where they are supposed to be after the earlier switch. I verified not just with the key binding (I have each desktop bound to a specific key but also the work place switch in the launcher).

Nice suggestion from #ubuntu-desktop: check did compiz restarted in meantime. In my case it did. But moving windows is a bug anyway.

Still not fixed after a year, affects 12.04 and 12.10 at least. Please increase the importance of this bug - it's easy to reproduce if you have more than one monitor and highly annoying.
"Dogfood" class if you will.

John,

Could you please check the process ID of compiz before and after locking the screen? You can just run:
    pidof compiz
to find it.

If the process ID has changed then compiz is crashing and we can't ensure windows stay in their original positions.
