Bug Description

With current feisty the slab menu doesn't open on first left click, it only becomes "depressed", only opening on the second. This happens under Beryl, but is not obvious whether it is a bug in slab (ie wrong window type) or in Beryl's focus stealing prevention (as "normal" panel main menus - such as the Menu Bar - work; and as the menu works fine in Compiz, or when FSP is turned off; the panel needs focus before the applet opens above all windows). However, a temporary fix for those running Beryl is to disable focus stealing prevention, by setting the "general" option to none.

i know why you didnt see it. the menu comes up under other windows on one click and on top of other windows on the second click. leave a window where the menu will come up and keep clicking on it. or to be more confused - like i was - have a window maximized. now it will appear as though half your clicks do nothing.

I also have this bug when using Metacity. However, it appears to be a bug in Beryl, not slab. It does not appear when running Compiz. I'm unsure whether to reject this bug on these grounds, as other panel applets do work with Beryl, and the "window type" (or something along those lines) may be set incorrectly in slab.

Maybe related:

When compiz is active, and "Fade" option is deactivated in gnome-compiz-preferences ("Windows" tab), clicking on "System" or "Places" menu never brings the menu up, but the "depressed" effect is there. The "Applications" menu works normally.

Furthermore, my deskbar applet that resides on the top panel, does not display a drop-down list of suggestions anymore when typing. But when the small symbol at the left is clicked, a drop-down list of last actions is displayed normally.

When "Fade" is deactivated, the compiz turned off and back on with desktop-effects, the menus work normally (still no Fade effect). Now when activating Fade and deactivating again, problem returns again.

Feisty final, using 'ati' driver.

Found out something new (still don't know if this is relevant here or if I should open a new bug):

The menus are actually opened, but 100% transparent. If i move the mouse down, I can click on the menu entries without seeing anything, and the action gets carried out. Also if I move the mouse over a submenu entry, the submenu is displayed normally.

The same thing happens with "tilda", which pops up a terminal when a hotkey is pressed. When "Fade" is deactivated, tilda pops up 100% transparent, but can then be made visible with Alt + Mousewheel (this is not possible with the menus).

I find that this occurs when beryl is running. The problem does not occur with Metacity.

Solve this by setting Focus Stealing Prevention to None.
