Bug Description

Bluetooth doesn't work in kubuntu 11.04 when the computer boot up. When I run command:
"sudo service bluetooth restart" it start to work.

Since it has been working fine in 10.10, it looks similar to bug 762964, but the kernel update which should resolve the bug 762964 did not work for me.

My bluetooth adapter is:

kk@kk-nb:~$ lsusb
Bus 006 Device 003: ID 0c24:0021 Taiyo Yuden

And kernel version:

kk@kk-nb:~$ uname -a
Linux kk-nb 2.6.38-11-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 29 19:02:55 UTC 2011 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Here are syslog and dmesg bluetooth messages:

simple but ugly fix is:
1. sudo nano /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
2. add at the end of the file this lines
greeter-setup-script=/etc/init.d/bluetooth restart
3. logoff or restart

Comment #3 is for Ubuntu 11.10 with Lighdm. For Ubuntu 11.04 is ugly working fix is:
1. sudo nano /etc/gdm/Init/Default
2. add these lines to the end of the file:
/etc/init.d/bluetooth stop
while [ $(pgrep -x bluetoothd) ]; do sleep 0.1; done
/etc/init.d/bluetooth start
3. logoff or restart

Up to date Ubuntu 11.04 amd64 here, still suffering from the issue. Bluetooth doesn't work, until I issue a

# service bluetooth restart

command.

I have put it into /etc/rc.local, which took care of the symptom, but not the underlying cause.

I have tried ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports

Bug still persists.

Don't know if the bluetooth tray widget got reworked though.

service bluetooth restart works.

Karel Kozlik, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for late response. Bluetooth works more or less fine now, until I sleep&wakeup my laptop. After waking up there are some problems, but I guess it is for another bug report.
