Hi,

Please can you describe your problem bit more and tell us what exact problem you are facing with hplip-3.11.5 drivers.

Also there is latest hplip-3.11.7 available now. You can download the same at http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/gethplip.html

Please post us the output of "hp-check -t" command.

Thanks & Regards,

Working with this printer, OfficeJet Pro 8500, on a customer's premises I was, understandable, getting a little annoyed with it.

Always when one installs printers on Linux, it is a case of plugging it in?
The 8500A is quite different, you must first go through a procedure, on the printer - not the computer, to initialize it. This procedure includes setting language and initialising the print heads. Only after this procedure, which takes some 20 minutes can you do anything at the computer end. And yes, once this 20 minute procedure is done then we now see the printer correctly on the USB (not on LP0).

With this particular printer we had to do a 'clean heads' with the HP toolbox on the computer before the printer was happy and printed all colours correctly. Until this was done it (the printer) would insist on printing a test page which revealed that the black printing was not OK.

Now I have installed several new printers on this particular updated distro with hplip 3.11.5 and while they all print and scan the ability in Xsane to select an area for scanning is defective.

HP Officejet Pro 8500A prints a much greater area than that I selected.
HP Deskjet 2050 prints the whole of the scanned page, selecting the small area has no effect.
HP B110A prints the selected area correctly.
HP Deskjet 4200 prints the selected area correctly.
HP C3180 prints the selected area correctly.

The 8500A and the 4200 on on the one computer

I cannot understand which module may be at fault when we use Xsane.

So again the printers are fine with 3.11.5 but the scanning functions are in error.

On installing the latest version of hplib (which I have been successfully doing with previous versions) I now get a dependency issue which I am unable to resolve.

When I use the tarred version I get as far as requiring, if I remember correctly, libtools and despite my efforts, although libtools is installed correctly clearly with Mandriva it is not right and we cannot complete the hplip installation process.
These inconsistencies of names make life very difficult.

The result is that I am using the version that is in the Mandriva repositories as of very recently.
But I shall make further effort to resolve this so that I can then apply "hp-check -t" command.
Unfortunately the two printers which exhibit the problem are on customers premises.

On Thursday next I will have an opportunity with one customer to work on this problem.

I have also posted on the qa.mandriva.com site
https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=64025

I am also wondering whether it is possible to have pre-compiled packages rather as Dell provide on their website where they provide both deb and rpm packages for some of their printers. Certainly I do wonder if this should be a feasibility on the hplip website.
I am now wondering why we cannot have pre-compiled packages rather in the way that Dell provide on their website where they provide both deb and rpm compiled packages.
