Dark toolbars are inconsistent across applications

Bug Description

In Oneiric, light-themes has switched to a combo title/tool bar. As it currently stands, these toolbars are not displayed consistently across all applications with toolbars.

For example: install Abiword, open the program, toolbars are old, not colored style.

That's because Abiword is still a GTK2 application, so it uses the old theme. In order to solve this issue, it is necessary to do some changes to the GTK2 theme as well. The code is already available on the "Light Themes Evolution", which I maintain.

I'm willing to push a branch with all the adaptations required if asked. The code is free, anyway :D

I think it would be smarter to include a modified GTK2 theme to reflect the visual update. Unless, of course, the distinction is on purpose? However, I use Ambiance Evolution in my Natty (Quite enjoy the theme) and must say it wouldn't work 100% right. (THough, I haven't updated it in a few days and it may have the Oneiric Light-themes gradient by now).

I doubt this will be rectified for Oneiric, though. Would require a UIFe and I have NO clue of how to get one of those. And they likely have more important tasks.

I'm using light themes evolution classic on Natty. Latest version 0.1.8.14.8 screwed up toolbars and icons. I just upgraded the package. Do i have do do anything else? I've included a screenshot showing nautilus and gedit.

BTW Cimi, why GTK2 version of Light themes haven’t updated with the latest style changes to the GTK3 themes (square buttons, etc.)?

Victor Martinez (victored) wrote :

@Jonathan: I agree. The light-themes-evolution code wouldn't work fine due to minor changes that diverge from Ubuntu's default appearance, although making the required changes to the GTK2 Themes from the scratch is not that hard.

@Gonçalo: I don't know if this is the right place to respond to your question. The changes you see in the latest update [for the light-themes-evolution-classic package] are completely intentional. I realized that the dark toolbars don't look good when the menubars are inside the windows (not-global menu).

@Andrea Cimitan: Are there any plans to make the proper changes to the GTK2 versions as well?
I've made good progress on that already.

BTW, is the new style for the GtkScale widget permanent?

I disagree with setting this bug's status to "invalid". I am using Ubuntu 12.04 and because of this bug GTK2 and GTK3 applications look inconsistent. I am *not* using the global menu (I switched to gnome-fallback). I like how the dark menubar and the dark toolbar form a union that is clearly distinguishable from the application's "content area" (see attached screenshot).
