Bug Description

I just installed Ubuntu and Kubuntu 11.04 (x64) and all works great. Only the touchpad is not correctly detected 'cause it works as a regular mouse, but scrolling and multi-touch functions don't work.

"System Settings" in KDE says that there's no synaptics driver installed or correctly arranged. It seems that the system detects the touchpad as a PS/2 mouse from Logitech.

My Notebook: Samsung RF711-S07.

Michel: I think your report is probably a duplicate of bug 681904. Can you test the build I posted there and see if it fixes your touchpad detection?

@sforshee thanks for your answer.
If i install the kernel 3.0 from your URL the system does not start and freezed.
I must choose "Previous linux versions" in GRUB and select "2.6.38" (the Ubuntu-standard kernel)
to start Kubuntu correctly.

Michel: Would you mind trying the 2.6.38 kernel posted there as well to see if it hangs? I'd also suggest modifying your /etc/default/grub, changing the line that reads:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"

to

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=""

and then running 'sudo update-grub'. This will cause messages to be printed to the screen during boot, which could help with determining the cause of your hang.

Thanks!

I uninstalled the Kernel 3.0 and installed the 2.6.38-11 from your source.
Now all works great and under "system settings" in KDE i can configure it.
Scrolling works, too.

But: Should i ignore all further kernel updates which comes over the update manager
to be sure that the touchpad will be work or should i install them?

Thank you very much!!

You can either keep that kernel installed or use the dkms package on the other bug, which will get automatically rebuilt when you install new kernels. We probably won't have a fix in the official kernels for a little while yet.
