Bug Description

When attempting to export cookies, an alert pops up on my screen with the following:

[Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED) [nsIFileOutputStream.init]" nsresult: "0x80520015 (NS_ERROR_FILE_ACCESS_DENIED)" location: "JS frame :: jar:file:///Users/Davey/Library/Application%20Support/Firefox/Profiles/a1dio7c3.ff5/extensions/%7B9D23D0AA-D8F5-11DA-B3FC-0928ABF316DE%7D.xpi!/components/CookieSafeFileManager.js :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 92" data: no]

It's hard for me to look into this issue as I do not have a Mac and this seams to be a Mac specific issue since no file access issues are occuring under Linux anymore...
Are you using the newest version from SourceForge?
If you create a new file, does this message change anyhow?
What do the file permissions say on the file used?

I hope I don't have to buy a Mac to figure this one out? ;)

PS: I wouldn't buy a Mac of course... but maybe install it within a virtual machine...? :P

I have been getting this same error message, but I have not been exporting cookies. My error message simply pops up twice every time I close any Firefox window.

I am using CookieSafe 3.1a9 in Firefox 8.0 and now 9.0.1 on Kubuntu 10.10.

[Exception... Hi,

Are you sure you are not importing/exporting?

Please check in "CookieSafe Settings -> Other Settings -> Old options
dialog -> Import/export" if any of the checkmarks next to
 * "Import Cookies at startup"
 * "Import Exceptions at startup"
 * "Export Cookies at shutdown"
 * "Export Exceptions ar shutdown"
at checked. (Your labels might vary a little bit as I'm not using
English locale)
Notice: If you are not using the newest version then you'll have to skip
the "Other Settings -> Old options dialog" part when navigating to those
settings.

Thanks for your response. I do not have any of those items checked.

Also, I just now tried exporting and importing to see what would happen, and got nothing at all. According to my settings, I should have at least gotten a prompt for a location to save the cookies. I didn't get any dialog for where to import from either, and "View Exported Cookies" opens an empty Firefox window.

I wonder if it could possibly be an interaction with Session Manager [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/]? I eventually remembered that extension has an option to save session cookies.

That's very strange... Could you please try setting up a new Firefox profile to see if the problem persists? Please also post a list of all of your Firefox extensions installed...

Solved. It looks like back when I first added the extension, empty cookies.xml and exceptions.xml files were installed or exported which somehow had no file permissions whatsoever. I deleted those and the error is now gone. Apparently -rw-r--r-- file permissions work much better than ----------; who knew? ;) I am also now certain that it is the Session Manager extension which was exporting cookies/exceptions behind the scenes.

Hi montuos,
I must confess that it was CookieSafe exporting those files after all ;) I have just found that some code for checking when to export actually was missing. :-P It should be fixed with the new version released today. Please tell me if there are any other problems (or feature requests) whenever you encounter them!

PS: Permissions are both a blessing and a curse, aren't they? ;-)
