Bug Description

Based on specs from Nat/Robert, have a print icon that gives a printable view of the current date on the calendar.

Nat, if you want a printable view for all combinations of calendar/list + day/week/month, that means 6 printable views.

Paul: any feedback on the preliminary pdfs I sent? Do we need to discuss before I move on with it?

I agree that the print views shouldn’t hold up our first release and can wait until September if necessary. If we have time to work on some print views, but not all of them, then my preference would be to work on the month views first for both list and calendar settings. How does that sound?

Hi Balazs,

I think you’re on the right track with the mock-ups you sent around. Robert and I took a look and have a few comments. We printed out the examples you sent around and they seemed to not fit the page as well as we expected. You should make sure to optimize to 8.5”x11” paper size. Additionally, for the calendar month view we should optimize for a landscape view in order to maximize the space available on the page for the calendar. Right now, it seems like the calendar is shoved up to the top of the page on the month view. Robert, jump in if I left anything out.

Thanks,
Nat

Disabling the print button now.

I close this issue, a new ticket can be opened in a next iteration.

By the way, given the change in schedule, you're cleared to use your budget on print if nothing else is scheduled.

On trunk, there is a version of the printing that is testable although I am sure we will want a few extra touches before finish.

However, it is cannot testable right now, because the print button is disabled.

For a preview I attach some prints that I made on my test community today.

To avoid that this stays "in progress" forever, I am closing this

to summarize the status:

- printing is working

- I expect changes after it's reviewed, but this is all I can do before further input

- to enable it to be reviewed, we need to enable the Print button (either manually on a staging, or by making a branch that just reveals this button)

Balazs, can you make a screencast on this? That will avoid the challenge of temporarily enabling the print button on branch1.

Balazs, I'll re-open this for testing next week. You can make a branch that shows the button, as you suggest.

There is a branch ree-calendar-printing where the button is enabled. This branch also contains recent IE fixes on the event rendering.

This looks good and is fine to roll out as is for now, but I do have 2 comments on things that would be nice to add if possible:

1) For the month view is it possible to have the print button pass along to the user's printer the paper orientation that should be used? If you print it as is, then you get a portrait view, which doesn't look very nice. You have to remember to change your printer settings to landscape if you want to get a nicely formatted calendar printout.

2) Is it possible to have the community name appear in the upper left hand corner of the page. Right now we're listing the the view (December 2011, Week of xxxx, etc.), which is good, but if I print our several calendars from different communities it would be good to be able to quickly identify which community the calendar originated from.

Sorry, one more thing. Are we sure the print view is formatted for 8.5" X 11" paper? The week and day views bleed out onto 2 pages, where in the screenshots that were attached in previous comments, everything appears on one page.
