tracker-extract suddenly crashes

i started tracker for the first time.
I've got a crah dump file but i can't upload it

I've seen that you are running Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft, and that your tracker version is 0.5.4-1. This isn't the Ubuntu 6.10 package, so as it probably hasn't been built in its environment, it's normal that it crashes.

Could you tell us from where you have installed the package?

crashes in tracker-extract are not fatal to the tracker daemon and should not cause bug buddy or any other tool to report an error

They are usually caused by bugs in the underlying (non-tracker) libs or by damaged or mistaken file formats but they can safely be ignored (worst case is that no metadata was extracted for a particular file)

I used the edgy repository from the tracker homepage:

now tracker seems to work ok. there were multiple successive crashes when i started tracker for the first time yesterday.

I will do some more tests and upload the crash dump tonight as I am not at home on my computer at the moment.

As tracker isn't in the ubuntu edgy repositories, we can't support it. If you want, you can report the bug upstream.

However, tracker is in Feisty, which will be released in April.
