Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run gcalctool
2. Click 'Memory' button

Result: modal window is not displayed, see screenshot at http://imgur.com/XurvN

Switch to advanced Mode from the Edit menu. The click on the 'x' with a drop down

affects: unity (Ubuntu) → compiz (Ubuntu)

This problem is also happening in a few other applications, as I have seen a similar problem yesterday as well

Modal window implementations for compiz have been reverted and are not supported.
