Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I'm not clear on what the problem is and how to reproduce it, as I am able to play Youtube videos without problems in the browser.

Could you please answer these questions:

* Is this reproducible, does it happen every time?
* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
* Was this working before? If so, what changed between the time it was working and now, that it's failing?

This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Thanks!

Yes of-course, I can answer those questions:

* Is this reproducible, does it happen every time?
Yes it is and it happens every time.

* If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
First be sure that the youtube addon is enabled:
1. Open totem.
2. Edit > addons / extensions (I'm not sure the name in english) .

Once enabled:
1. Open the sidebar in totem.
2. Select the youtube explorer and search a video.
3. Double click to play any video.

Another way to reproduce the error:
1. Drag and Drop any youtube link from firefox to totem.

* Was this working before? If so, what changed between the time it was working and now, that it's failing?
Yes, it was working before, I think that youtube changed something since some firefox addons like "Easy youtube video downloader" and "FlashVideoReplacer" also got broken but were updated and now they work correctly.

Thank you!

I was able to confirm this behavior using the steps to reproduce you provided, thanks!

This is on Ubuntu 11.04.

I'm thus setting the bug to confirmed, with importance: medium per "moderate impact on core application". I'm also moving to package "totem" as the troublesome component appears to be the youtube plugin, which is in totem-plugins binary package, built from source package "totem".

I searched for upstream bugs about this and couldn't find any.

I also tried to test with the latest Ubuntu development version but totem is segfaulting on me, so I can't confirm yet whether this is fixed in development.

The most likely cause for this is that youtube made some changes and the youtube plugin doesn't account for that yet.

Thanks again for your report!

I am able to play Youtube videos as described in this report, using the development release of Ubuntu (Oneiric Ocelot) - I installed from the Alpha 3 image and then upgraded totem to the latest version.

Could anyone affected by this problem confirm that this is now working? One way to do itis to download the Oneiric Ocelot Live CD and try to test there, this might require updating totem to the latest version, I think this can be done under the Live CD environment.

Please let me know if you need further instructions on how to accomplish this.

I'm moving the bug's status to Incomplete until we can get confirmation that this is fixed in development.

Thanks!
