Bug Description

I just performed upgrade testing for i386 Alpha3 and after the upgrade I get only a blank screen (no launcher or panel) in the standard Ubuntu session, but I can use Unity/Ubuntu-2D.

I filed this using "ubuntu-bug update-manager" in hopes that some useful logs might be gathered. I should be able to leave this OS mostly untouched so I can attach any requested additional logs.

This machine has Intel i945 graphics and can normally run the standard Ubuntu session.

This is not directly related to the dist-upgrade process.

I happened to think that I'd been doing my Alpha3 iso-testing on another box so I booted the Live CD on this box and had the same problem.

With the live CD I got a compiz crash report so I filed bug 819999 which may be a duplicate of 819739.

I could barely see well enough to get that filed so I'm now following up in another DE.

Sorry for any confusion.

Thanks for your report. Could you upgrade libnux to 1.0.8-0ubuntu2 and tell if that fix the problem ?

Yes, the nux updates fixed the problem.

BTW the latest iso-testing build appears to have a broken link:

http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/info/6157

But if it's the same as the latest daily with an md5sum f5c819e6a3a007f3220a2ff1f9a569a1 it looks like the nux updates are included so this should be fixed both in the live session and upgrades.
