Bug Description

The menu-entries for audio and video cha are grayed out, even for my contacts which are using Jabber or Googletalk. Over the Googletalk-browser plug-in I can make Audio and Video calls to them.

As I mentioned above I'm not able to make a call because the menu entries are grayed out.

Yes, webcam (Creative Live Cam Chat HD) is attached and works fine with Skype and the Googletalk-browser plugin.

Can you go to the Skype Options and select the Video Devices page and tell us what it displays under 'Select Webcam'.

Have you got more than one web cam listed?

Also can you test it using Cheese (you may have to install it).

Its is worth noting that both Skype and the Googletalk-browser plugin are proprietary software that may have capabilities to recognise web cams that other Linux programs cannot.

Cheese works fine as well. Skype just presents me one webcam (my webcam) to choose: "VF0700 Live! Cam Chat HD (/dev/video0)".

hmmm can you check that:
if the other people call you and your cam and mic attached
are you able to attend that one and talk with them at that time it works fine ??

I've got some news. Yesterday next to one of my contacts who is using the same jabber server and the same client (Empathy) the webcam symbol was shown. I haven't had the time to try to call him but will try it later. But still I can't call all my other jabber and Googletalk contacts.

My contact, mentioned in the last post, tried to call me. But it didn't work ("Es kann kein Audio-Strom aufgebaut werden. Could not establish connection."). I tried to call him as well (as I mentioned above, this contact is the only one where the menu entries are not grayed out) with the same result.

Ok, the connection problem seems to be a a cause of the old empathy version of my contact (he is using Debian).
