Bug Description

I am currently experiencing a bug with the following system setup:

1) a Ubuntu server instance running the server edition of 11.04
2) an LTSP fat client, which bootstraps from the server
3) a virtual machine that serves the home directories for the LTSP fat client

When I specify

LDM_XSESSION="gnome-session --session=classic-gnome

in lts.conf, everything works fine. Afterwords I can start Unity by typing "unity --replace &" in a terminal. However, without the LDM_XSESSION variable or with

LDM_XSESSION="gnome-session --session=ubuntu",

Unity fails to load (only Nautilus and Compiz seem to be running).

I have found out that the Unity plugin is deactived in the compiz settings. Why is this the case?

More information:

In order for Unity to function properly, the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/65compiz_profile-on-session is being sourced by Xsession.

However, it checks the $GDMSESSION variable, which is not set in LDM.

I filed a better bug report at

and mark this as invalid now.
