lightdm fails to bringup display

Bug Description

As of todays update lightdm fails to bring up a display (console remains text). Switching to a vt logging in and killing and restarting lightdm has the same result. However manually starting gdm results in a gdm login screen which allows logging into the desktop.

is lightdm-gtk-greeter installed there? if not that's the same as bug 816646
