Bug Description
I have tried to use smart instead of aptitude for some time.
I have a script that does "smart update; smart upgrade" that I run regularly.
I have noticed that sometimes smart does not offer to upgrade any packages, yet when I run aptitude upgrade, some packages are upgraded.
I *think* this happens when smart is interrupted by Ctrl-C - the packages it wanted to install that time are not asked about again, even though they were never upgraded.
Seems smart's cache is sometimes not in sync with the system state, making it unreliable as replacement for aptitude/apt-get.

This behaviour is actually the reason to use smart. smart won't upgrade dependancies for one package if it will break another package. It will choose the most compatible set of packages for that system. this does mean that at times a particular system won't be using the very latest packages in a repository. So actually aptitude/apt-get broke you system :)
