Bug Description

Hi, I use Ubuntu 11.04 (with Unity) and recently (one or two weeks ago) I noticed that my Skype icon appears completely screwed. Everytime I open Skype its icon on systray appears as in the screenshot attached (the weird green dots at the left is the skype icon).

I believe this is more likely a problem with Skype than a problem with gnome-panel as you do not appear to be suffering corruption to any other icons.

affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) → skype (Ubuntu)

I just had the same problem with the printer indicator. I don't think that the problem is related to a particular application.

Hmmmmm, interesting. This seems like it could be a GPU related error, can you please see if it occurs in the classic GNOME desktop with the Nvidia binary blob temporarily removed and 3D acceleration disabled(using the default fall-back Nouveau 2D-only drivers)?

Also, can you please run:

# update-pciids

And then post the results of?:

$ lspci

Does the problem occur constantly or just occasionally? And can you please check to see if any of your components are suffering from overheating?

affects: skype (Ubuntu) → ubuntu

Oh, you can safely disregard my suggestions to see if the bug was a GPU related error if you wish, it seems to be a duplicate of this previously reported one: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/439448

I will mark this bug as a duplicate now, but if you consider the bug you are suffering from to be unique and not related to that one, please comment here.

Same problem, started few weeks ago.

I believe it's not a duplicate, i know bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/439448 i have lot of problems with it, but it does not appear for me for a few month

*note: if you have 2 skype running, the icons are both fine.

It is interesting that you suggested bug #439448. I suffered with it when using Ubuntu 10.10 in this machine. But after the upgrade to Natty I never had this problem (well, until now maybe).

I tested what Ivan said and it is true. When I launch the first Skype instance the icon is screwed, but when I launch a second instance both icons are just fine.

After an update earlier today (linux-image 2.6.38-11-generic + nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu1~natty~xup1 from ubuntu-x-swat) the bug is gone. I already restarted the computer a few times and Skype icon appears correctly now. :)
