[Natty] Kubuntu system settings downloads KDM themes but cannot install

Bug Description

The KDM themes setup in system settings has a "Get new themes" button that fires a "Hot new stuff" extensions manager.
This extension manager allows downloading new themes from the online gallery and then shows them as supposedly "installed", however KDM themes selection box doesn't show these newly "installed (?)" themes at all.

(Furthermore I can't figure out where they have been downloaded, if they actually have...)

See attached image to better understand the issue.

Version: 1.0 (using KDE 4.5.2)
OS: Linux

Installing a new theme via "Get New Themes" (and probably via "Install new theme" too) doesn't work, because the sudo authentication is done after pressing apply, until that everything is done as the non-root user, who has no write permission to /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes .

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
click get themes and click install on a theme.

Actual Results:
nothing happens, expect for the "installed" theme's install button becomes uninstall.

Expected Results:
the new theme should be installed and listed to be selected.

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.35-22-generic
Compiler: cc

I'm not sure if it's a kubuntu specific bug.

That's actually KDE bug 255453 : https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255453

The workaround is to start "systemsettings" as root, i.e.:

$ kdesudo systemsettings &

...then KDM themes will download and install properly.

Since I am currently overhauling the entire KDM Theme selection dialog, I will have a look at this issue in the next few days.
Maybe I can achieve something similar like the “Apply button with the key icon” on the main dialog, dunno if GHNS supports something like that though.
I’ll see what I can do.

Present in Kubuntu 11.10 final release, with KDE 4.7.2. The bug is really maddening! I don't like having to `kdesudo systemsetting` for a workaround. But, new users are bound to use this often, and get hit by it. It's really frustrating. :(

As a workaround, I can chmod o+w /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes and System Administration -> Login Screen -> Theme -> Get New Themes will install kdm themes.
